Keeping the Momentum

How can you keep the momentum going in your life and in your business? That's a question many people struggle with. It's easy to get started. You're excited, you're ready to go out and get things moving in the right direction. But soon that can wear off, especially once you start facing the challenges and obstacles that you are bound to face when trying to accomplish any significant progression in your life. So what is the secret? How do some people keep going while others fade away? Here are a few tips to help.

  • Be disciplined - Discipline is a huge factor and can be a large part of why you struggle to move forward while someone else seems like they are sprinting ahead effortlessly. If you are not disciplined, it is easy to get away from the tasks that you know you need to do but you don't want to do. Don't get in the habit of just going about the day and trying to get as much done as possible. Be structured about it. Have a schedule, put your "must do" tasks in, and stick to it.
  • Focus on your "Why" - When the struggles come, and they will, focus on why you are doing what you are doing. What is it that you are trying to accomplish? Remember, a big "why" means big motivation, so looking beyond the problem to what you will have when you find a way around it will help you see that it will be worth getting through the struggle and not giving up.
  • Be accountable - Find someone to hold you accountable. Whether it's a spouse, a life coach a mentor or a friend, find someone that will hold you to what you say you will do. Don't automatically pick your spouse or your best friend for this. They may not be the best fit. You need someone who will tell it like it is, and call you on things when they need to. If your friend or spouse can't do that, you need to find someone else who will. Tell your accountability partner what you plan to accomplish for the month, for the week, or even for the day. Go over it with them and let them know what you did and did not accomplish. Be honest. Faking your way through it will not help. This can make a huge impact, especially if you struggle with organization and keeping to your schedule.
  • Keep moving - Even when you don't feel like it. There will be days that you do not want to do the things you know you need to do. Trust me, putting it off will not help; it will make you feel worse. When you get to the end of the day, and you look back and have really accomplished nothing of importance, it hurts your self-esteem and brings you down. I'm not talking about one off day where things go haywire. I'm talking about avoiding doing what you need to in order to be successful. If only more people did what they knew how to do, if they only acted on the knowledge they had, they would be in a much different position then they are right now. Even if it's a large step forward one day and a small step the next, keep moving forward no matter what.

These are just a few ways that can help you immensely in keeping the momentum in your life. I hope they help move you closer to where you desire to be.
